From the First Customer to a Value Chain in Action

A few days ago, we hosted a special event here in Rösrath: Sebastian Alvensleben and Steffen Doneit from OSR Metallrecycling GmbH & Co. KG, as well as Olivier Rebuffet and Herve Stoppiglia from Constellium, visited our Application Center to conduct forward-looking experiments together and discuss the next steps in our collaboration.

This visit holds special significance for us: OSR was our first customer—the pioneering project that started it all for Cleansort. It was all the more wonderful that Sebastian Alvensleben and Steffen Doneit were now also the first to be featured on our new “People Behind Progress” wall in our Application Center. It’s a small detail with great symbolic power, because it brings us full circle right back to where our journey began.

Over the years, this initial project has grown into a close partnership. The practical experience and direct feedback from its use at OSR continue to inform the ongoing development of our LIBS technology to this day. The KeyLIBS system installed at OSR has been in operation for over four years, at times even running in three-shift operation.

The visit also serves as an example of how closely three companies collaborate within the complex value chain of metal recycling: OSR sources scrap metal and sorts it with high precision down to the alloy level using our Cleansort LIBS technology. The sorted materials are then returned to the cycle via Constellium’s smelting process —without any loss of quality or downcycling—and are further processed in industry.
