Recycling redefined

Values and mission

When Cleansort GmbH was founded in 2018, we were already pursuing the goal of revolutionizing efficiency and sustainability in the sorting of recyclable materials. We use laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze and sort metallic secondary raw materials and have quickly become a pioneer in the industry. Our corporate values are reflected in our commitment to responsibility, innovation and efficiency by using resources efficiently and protecting the environment. Through continuous development and successful projects, we have created an advanced solution that is precise, efficient and environmentally friendly. Today, Cleansort stands for state-of-the-art sorting technology that redefines the recycling process and conserves valuable resources. Discover how we are making a positive difference with our sustainable business philosophy and innovative solutions.

Our story

2014

The idea

In 2014, the idea is born to use the laser-induced plasma spectroscopy method, which has been known for decades and is used both in laboratories and on Mars, to analyze large streams of recyclable materials.

2014

First research project

The first research project funded by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) is launched. The aim is to develop and test a laboratory device that enables laser ablation and laser-based plasma spectroscopy to work together for the analysis of metallic secondary raw materials.

2016

Second research project

Following the successful completion of the first research project, a follow-up project starts in 2016. The focus is on testing a prototype that enables laser ablation and laser-induced plasma spectroscopy to work together on metallic secondary raw materials under real operating conditions. The DBU also funds this project.

2018

Foundation

The managing partners of Clean-Lasersysteme GmbH found the company together with Philipp Soest, the future managing director of Cleansort GmbH. Rösrath, near Cologne, becomes the location of the company headquarters and thus the new home of Cleansort.

2020

Contact with the industry

Two flagship projects designed to confirm the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the sorting process are successfully completed. These successes form the basis for transforming the original idea into a competitive product.

2022

Construction of the first close-to-production prototype in an industrial environment

With the support of the DBU, Cleansort installs the first sorting solution at OSR GmbH & Co KG. This project marks a decisive milestone for the future development of our company and forms the basis for further innovation in the field of sorting recycling materials.

2023

Cleansort grows and wins NRW founding award MUT

In addition to several prizes from the circular economy and laser industry, we win the NRW founding award MUT in 2023. We expand our production and office space and increase the size of our team. We also put additional customer sorting solutions into operation, which have been running in two shifts ever since.

2024

Installing additional sorting solutions and expansion of the product portfolio

Cleansort is successfully expanding its technology with customers throughout Europe.

2025

On course for growth

2025 marks a year of strategic decisions for Cleansort: Through close cooperation with our partner SGM Magnetics, we are opening up new international markets and laying the foundation for our global market entry. At the same time, our team is growing to over 50 dedicated employees – and our company site in Rösrath is also constantly evolving.
